So of course I should be celebrating, and I remembered this year, but Canada Day just isn’t quite the same when you’re overseas. And few of my friends in Shanghai are Canadian. Almost all are (shivers) United States of American. They diligently poke fun of the day when we quietly walked away [...]

A Taste of Christmas
December 20th, 2008 · No Comments
Well it looks like I’m gettin’ off my duff this year and going to a true ex-pat apartment that’s being house-sat by a friend for a real Christmas dinner. We’re roasting lamb, vegetables and potatoes as the main feature. Birds (as in turkeys) are hard to come by here, and we’re dealing with [...]

Many of the decorations are top-class, but some are a little lame. There are quite a few misled would-be Christmas decorations and gifts, but for the most part many [...]

Halloween in Shanghai
October 31st, 2007 · No Comments
Halloween is always great, but in Shanghai it’s a little more work than back home. This year, on cue, I went out looking for a costume twice, only to be disappointed once again by the meager showing by Carrefour (when will they learn) and shut out by another store that had magically disappeared. [...]
