Elevated Road Collapse

Driving to work may be boring at times, but not as much in China. Along with looking out for bicycles, drivers who like to lane surf, pedestrians everywhere and three-wheeled carts, you also have to watch for collapsing elevated roads.

China has built many of these things over the last two decades, creating ring roads around cities and trunk roads through them that improve traffic flow. They’re literally 30 feet or so above ground for miles and miles, no red lights, with roundabouts where two or more merge.

This one in Baotou wasn’t having any more of being driven on. It gave way in the middle of the night - good thing - there were few people around and just a few injuries as a result. A full investigation of the city’s infrastructure is now underway.

The only question is how are they going to remove the still in-tact section?
