Ear Hygiene

October 17th, 2007 · 1 Comment

Yes, I’m posting about ear wax… and its removal. I’ve been (un)lucky enough to witness this a few times, but never had a camera with me. My apologies, I will get a pic as soon as I can.

The thing is, sometimes there’s nothing else available, and since your hands might be dirty, you got to use something else. And since Chinese people often take care of their hygienic needs in public, why not?

What have I seen people use to clean out their ears - keys. Yes! Keys.

Not only that, but they use different keys for different parts of the ears - now that’s highly developed brain functioning. Where have I seen this? On the bus (yes, even in the back seat, bouncing up and down), in restaurants (pleasant when eating), and sitting in the park with nothing better to do.

Ok, enough - I don’t want to be too negative.

What else have I seen used to pick wax out of ears over the 2+ years since this post?
    -toothpicks
    -pens
-Q-tips… well at least that’s what they’re meant for. By the way, if you ever get your hair cut in a Chinese salon (something I don’t need to worry about anymore) beware of the Q-tips. Part of the routine is to clean your ears, and when they go in with the Q-tips they go in deep and hard. It’s sort of a ticklish feeling, but I can’t stand it. Along with being uncomfortable I start remembering my mother telling me that it’s dangerous to stick anything into your ears; that you can damage your eardrum.
