Today while standing on a street corner I saw a young (30ish) father and his daughter waiting alongside me. The father reached back and hacked up a good ol’ spit. The daughter, watching the Dad, immediately spit as well, though without the preceding lung-clearing action. She then looked up at Dad, admiringly, just screaming with ‘I love my Dad, I want to be just like him when I grow up.’ She was about 5 or 6 years old.
I was cursing myself for just having put my camera away, got it out quickly putting it on the video mode in case Dad went for it again. Sadly, he didn’t.
I’m sure this little girl will someday realize her Dad isn’t the coolest and that spitting isn’t so ladylike. But then I have witnessed quite a few of the older gals acting like they’re on the farm as well. Hopefully the girl will come to it soon and teach Dad as well.
